The Department of Substance Abuse Prevention Services administers and clinically interprets drug and alcohol screenings and assessments for the public. Our screening tools include the adult and adolescent version of the SASSI (Substance Abuse Subtle Scale Inventory) and the POSIT (Problem Oriented Screening Instrument for Teenagers). Both of the screens are computer generated and are very brief to administer and very fast to clinically interpret the results. Both have been empirically studied and have a high reliability.

The SASSI has numerous features that make it a valuable tool including scales that measure random answering patterns that gauge honesty or consistency from question to question. This allows the clinician insight into defensiveness or denial issues of the client while providing an accurate profile of the clients risk level regardless of their attitude at the time of testing.

The POSIT is a unique screen that was developed by NIDA: the National Institute on Drug Abuse. The screen is court mandated in many states whenever a youth enters the Juvenile Justice system. The POSIT features 3 questionnaires for consideration; a pre-intervention original test evaluation, a parent test and a follow-up post intervention test. As with the SASSI the POSIT is fast to administer and to generate a clinical report in a timely fashion.
